Since opening its doors in 1889, the Doutta Galla has stood proud on Racecourse Road, watching the world roll by, pints in hand and stories on tap. Originally dreamt up by local legend Thomas Miller, the pub was built to be more than bricks and mortar. It was made to bring people together. A place for knock-off beers, family feeds, footy debates, and a few tall tales told over the bar.
It’s had a few names over the years, but the Doot stuck – just like the locals who’ve been calling it home for generations. Whether it’s race day at Flemington Racecourse or a regular Tuesday, there’s always a reason to drop in.
It’s where mates meet, strangers become friends, and time has a funny way of standing still – no pretence, no palaver, just your trusty local, doing what it’s always done best.

We’re right on Racecourse Road just a short stroll from the gate, and there’s nowhere better to get the day started (or finished). Whether you’re rolling in with a group all dressed up or just looking for a table, a drink and something good to eat before you head over, we’ve got you.
From relaxed get-togethers in the front bar to private sit-down dinners and cocktail parties, each of our spaces has its own character. Whether it’s a birthday, engagement, Christmas party or corporate event, our events team will tailor a package to suit.

We’re right on Racecourse Road, a short stroll from Flemington Racecourse and just minutes from the Melbourne CBD. We’re easy to reach by tram along Racecourse Road, train (Newmarket Station), rideshare or on foot.
Race days and weekends can get busy, so rideshare is recommended at peak times.
We welcome casual drinks, family feeds, long lunches, race day crowds, functions and events. Bookings are recommended for weekends and large groups.
